Pain Treatment

Podiatrists are lower limb experts who are university-trained to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate medical and surgical conditions of the feet and lower limbs. These conditions may stem from other underlying health issues such as diabetes and arthritis or may be as a result of injuries like ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, Achilles tendonitis, shin splints, patellofemoral joint syndrome and much more.

Photobiomodultation Therapy

Foot and Ankle Care offers laser therapy. It is called Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT)

PBMT is a form of light therapy (laser) based on the photochemical process called photobiomodulation (PBM). This process results in beneficial therapeutic outcomes such as the alleviation of pain, the regulation of inflammation, immunomodulation, and the promotion of tissue regeneration.

Laser therapy is a clinically proven and an effective treatment modality. It is used for treatment and relief of painful muscles and joints associated with acute and chronic tissue injuries. It is also indicated for helping relieve pain and stiffness associated with osteoarthritis and fractures. There is now evidence for its application in wound healing such as chronic ulcers an its application in sports with pre and post game treatments to improve mobility and  function. Absolutely amazing, Come and try!

Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is an effective clinically proven treatment solution for chronic conditions such as plantar fasciitis and Achillies tendon injuries. Depending on the application, Radial or Focused Shockwaves are applied to the tissue to stimulate metabolic activity and 'kickstart' the body's natural healing response. The acoustic waves increase blood flow, stimulate muscle repair and regeneration, and increase metabolisation at the cellular level.

ESWT can be used in conjunction with Photobiomodulation (Laser) therapy. Combination therapy has been clinical proven to produce complimentary benefits for those recalcitrant chronic conditions.

Deep Tissue Massage, Foot Mobilisation Therapy (FMT) and Dry Needling are all Manual Therapies.

These treatment modalities can help reduce your pain and dysfunction. They are aimed at improving the range of motion of your joints and muscles, as well as reducing swelling and    promoting healing. These therapies can be used in combination of each other or in isolation depending on your individual needs.

Deep Tissue Massage
This type of massage involves slower and more forceful strokes that target the deeper muscle layers and connective tissue (fascia).
Deep tissue massages is used to break up scarring tissue and break down muscle knots and oedema which can inhibit our circulation and cause pain and inflammation. It is effective for both subacute and chronic conditions.

Foot Mobilisation

Involves the passive manipulation of the joints in the feet to reduce adhesions and improve elasticity of the collagen fibres between the joint surfaces. This improves mobility within the foot as well as stimulating the joints proprioceptors and nerve endings. As a result pain is reduces and mobility is improved. Treatment is effective for 48-72 hours after treatment with a longer lasting effect if treatments are repeated over a consistent weekly time frame.

Dry Needling

Dry needling and acupuncture involve the insertion of the same type of needle into various parts of the body. During Acupuncture session, needles are inserted into points along "meridian" lines that represent the body’s organs, and are based on ancient Chinese medicine. During dry needling, the needles are inserted into trigger points or knots in the muscle. A response is elicited that releases the trigger point and restores normal function. Dry needling used to treat cases of chronic and acute pain without the use of medication, surgical procedures.
